A portion of all proceeds from The Official Max Challenge Cookbook Volumes 1 and 2 are donated to The Beauty Foundation of NJ for cancer care. The Beauty Foundation’s mission is to alleviate the tremendous physical, emotional and financial strains that cancer treatment places on families.
A letter from The Beauty Foundation for Cancer Care of New Jersey - Lori Ceraulo
As it gets increasingly difficult to raise money each year, the donations from The Max Challenge Cookbook has had a significant impact on our organization. Because of the incredibly generous support from people like you, several more families will receive financial assistance to help with their household bills, childcare, transportation to treatment and more. We are extremely grateful for the continued dedication and support of Mari and Leslie, and all they have done to help families in our community who are battling cancer.
Here are a few examples of how we have put the donations to immediate good use:
Maria, 35 years old from Woodside, NY. Maria is fighting cervical cancer. Maria is married and has a 3-year-old son. In her own words, “I am asking for help as my diagnosis has affected my family tremendously. I had to stop working due to my sickness. I have many days off due to medical appointments and my job is unable to pay me for these days off.”
Maria asked for help to cover rent, groceries and transportation. The Beauty Foundation for Cancer Care was able to provide a grant of $1500 which covered one month of her expenses.
Faith, 49 years old from Freehold, NJ. Faith is fighting breast cancer. Faith is married and a mother to a college freshman and two teenagers. She had to take an unpaid leave from her job that she's been with for 13 years. In her own words, "I am grateful for the support of my incredible husband who has taken over so much of the day-to-day around the house. We have insurance, however our deductibles are VERY high. With the added expenses of treatment and my daughter’s tuition, we need help.”
Faith asked for help with co-pays and a wig that she was unable to have covered by insurance. The Beauty Foundation was able to send Faith a $1000 grant to cover her wig and some of her co-payments.
Tyler, 22 years old from Long Valley, NJ. Tyler is fighting Rhabdomyosarcoma in the cheek. Tyler is a young woman who should be pursuing her post-college career and life goals. She should be out with friends and enjoying all that life has to offer. Instead she is battling a very aggressive form of cancer. She is receiving chemo and radiation at the same time, which is not common and has very harsh side effects. She is eager to finish treatment and regain her health and independence. Because her tumor has affected her TMJ joint, there are certain forms of physical therapy that are necessary, but not covered by insurance. She also has been unable to work and earn any income since she graduated.
The Beauty Foundation was able to provide Tyler with a grant that covered her physical therapy as well as covering some of her personal expenses.
